986... a number that I will always remember... Before I planned my proposal, I consulted a lot of my friends and relatives for ideas. Most of them don't encourage me to spend too much effort and time on my proposal because everyone knew that she will marry me for sure as we have been together for more than 10 years. But I don't agree. I think one of the greatest things in life is to be loving all the time and, one of the many ways to show this would be to give surprises to your better half. Not only does it make her happy.. when I see the smile on her face, I become happy too! I feel great! It's a chain effect!
Initially, I planned to propose to her on Valentine's Day by projecting 'our story' in the cinema with an animated cartoon. However, the animation was not ready at that time, so I waited and waited until one fine day, I found out that my idea was used by someone in Penang! I was a little disappointed but didn't really let it bother me. Finally I got my animation at the end of April and it was nicely done by my college mate, Eric Saw. The call to the cinema was very disappointing as they were not helpful at all. It was then that I decided to change my plan. I decided to play the piano instead as she once mentioned that she's impressed with guys who plays the piano.
Next, I asked my sister for contact numbers of any piano teachers that she knew. Then she gave me a contact number and at that time I felt uncertain. Anyway, I finally decided to ring up and went for the lesson. My 1st lesson was on 7 June 2006 at Viennique Tropicana Damansara and my piano teacher is Chloe . I have never expected it to be so so difficult!! I nearly gave up, but time does not permit as my target date was around the corner. I composed myself and decided that 'it's now or never'! She's everything to me and I WILL DO IT! So, I practiced daily. Two months later I finally mastered the simple version of "Endless Love".
One week before I proposed I called the management of Metrojaya, Mid Valley to seek approval from them to play on their piano. I managed to speak to the floor manager and told her my plan. After 3 days, they buzzed me and gave me the green light. I was overjoyed, feeling so great that the plan was going well..
Finally the day came. I acted normally that day, wore jeans and t-shirt and sent her to work. Once I dropped her off I drove to Tropicana Golf Club to get my bouquet of flowers from Green House Florist. Then I changed into formal clothings and drove back to Mid Valley.
In the meantime my parents and her dad were also at the 'site', my whole family was so supportive. I went to Metrojaya and did the preparations and called Jonathan (Sin Chi's colleague) at 11am and asked him to bring her to Metrojaya. Finally, she arrived. I held her hands and led her towards the piano and I started to play "Endless Love". My hand was shaking and I was so nervous until I stopped half way. I was sweating. My brother and my dad asked me to play the song again and I did. The second time, the song was 80% perfect. When I completed the song, I took out the ring and kneeled down. Very softly, I asked, "WILL YOU MARRY ME?"... when she said "YES", I stood up and gave her a big hug and kiss. She was in tears and so was I. The proposal was finally done and it went so smooth. I felt so free because all the while I had put in a lot of effort and was also worried that it will not go as planned, but no doubt I did it well. It was the most memorable day of our lives.
